Gainesville police to community: Do not call 911 to request 'Hot cops'

The police department in Gainesville, Florida issued an odd edict to its community this week: Please don't call 911 asking for "hot cops" to come to your house.

The warning was part of an update to a Facebook photo that went viral last weekend. The innocuous image showed three Gainesville officers — identified only as Nordman, Hamill and Rengering — posing for a selfie before starting their shifts.

The photo went viral, racking up more than 500,000 reactions and 178,000 comments, many of which were about how attractive the officers are.

"I can't believe how many women are objectifying these poor, fine, young, strong, handsome, brave, sexy, delicious, virile, ovulation-inducing, mouth-watering, beefy..... I can't remember where I was going with this..." wrote Lucy Kaye in a comment that was liked more than 143,000 times.

The Gainesville Police Department has clearly been enjoying the attention and has been playing along with the commenters, replying to Kaye, "Alright, ma'am...that one made me laugh."

The department even said they had booked a photographer and would be putting together a pin-up calendar featuring some of its officers.

But the joke turned a bit serious when some commenters said they planned to call 911 to request that the trio respond to their homes.

"Please do not call 9-1-1 and request this group respond to your 'incident,'" the department posted to Facebook.
