CNN Newsource - Dozens of cows were trapped by rising water from the flooded Brazos River in Fort Bend County, Texas Wednesday. The cows were left to fend for themselves in one of the hardest hit areas — the city of Simonton.

In the video, the animals are barely able to keep their heads above the water as they search for higher ground. According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff, some of these cows did make it to higher ground, but it is not clear how many survived.

The water is receding in Simonton at a slow rate. There is a mandatory evacuation in effect for part of the city.
