(NBC) - A school district in California has banned a third grade from wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat to school.

The Fresno Unified School District banned 9-year-old Logan Autry from wearing his Donald Trump autographed "Make America Great Again" hat while at school.

For three days straight the third grader wore the hat to class.

Each day, a growing number of classmates began confronting him at recess.

On Thursday, Logan left school early because school leader said the hat was causing a safety concern on campus.

They told him to take the hat off and not wear it at school again.

Autry says he supports the controversial candidate, and says asking him not to wear the hat is violation of his right to free speech.

"They told me to take my hat off because it brings negative emotions to the other children who don't like him," said Logan. "They were saying they didn't like Donald Trump.  They were saying he was stupid. I had to explain to them what Donald Trump was actually doing."
