This gas station doesn't want your sweaty boob and sock money

A local business is taking a stand against something we all deal with during the summer.

An AM/PM gas station in downtown Las Vegas will no longer accept bills that customers take out of their shoes or bras because they're sweaty.

A sign at the register says, "Due to rising summer temperatures, we will not be accepting boob or sock money. Questionably moist bills are subject to denial. We are sorry but it's unsanitary."

Some people aren't thrilled about the new policy.

"Money is money," one woman said. "When it comes down to it, it's money."

Others agree with what management is trying to do.

"The people that work here do not want to have those type of nasty germs on their hands," a shopper said.

Another customer said employees should wear gloves to handle money because there's no way of knowing where any bill has been.

"People find money on the street, they find money on the ground," she said. "You don't know. In the casinos, ew."

The fact is the sign might not be helping much. Any bill, even if it's taken out of a wallet, is filthy.

Researchers at New York University discovered more than 3,000 types of bacteria on a batch of one-dollar bills.

That means it's actually cleaner for a person to sit on a toilet seat than it is for the cashier to be handling cash everyday.

In the few weeks the sign's been up, employees say they haven't yet turned any customers away for reaching somewhere other than a wallet.
