A bus carrying 50 inmate in Arizona hit a semi leaving multiple people injured Tuesday morning.
All 50 prisoners have been accounted for, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Phoenix-based ABC15 reported.
The Department of Corrections said 22 people, including two staff members and 20 inmates were injured in the crash. All of them were transported to the hospital for the injuries they sustained in the crash.
Thirty inmates have returned to Lewis prison, a spokesman for the DOC said.
According to DPS, all of the inmates stayed on the scene and helped direct traffic and performed first aid for those that were injured. The truck was carrying herbicide.
The crash closed westbound lanes of Interstate 8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend in Arizona, but a portion of Interstate 8 has reopened.
