Americans will spend more on Independence Day celebrations this year than they spent last year.
The National Retail Federation says total spending on food items for July 4th cookouts and picnics is expected to be $6.6 billion. The average person will spend $71.23 — up from $68.16 in 2014.
More than 48 million consumers will buy patriotic apparel and things with which to decorate.
