A senior commander with the Islamic State was killed in an airstrike, officials said this morning.

The coalition airstrikes successfully targeted Mohamed Kamel Odeh in the city of Ramadi.

"Odeh was the Deputy Emir of al-Garma — one of the Islamic State's major strongholds in western Iraq," reports Wochit news.

"His assassination occurred during a battle in the city, serving as a significant success for the Iraqi army following a sharp increase of Isis attacks in the district over the past month."
