CRAWFORD COUNTY, Mich.-- Deputies answered a desperate call for help in northern Michigan and ended up delivering a baby.

Baby Jackson was born on the side of the road in Crawford County Sunday.

Mom and dad were rushing to the hospital when their car overheated and they became stranded.

Enter Crawford County deputies.

"I came out of the car and we ran around the side and the father was there on the passenger side of the car and then he was down there and the baby was coming," said Crawford County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Ryan Finstrom.

Paramedics arrived shortly after the baby's birth.

"The babies are slippery. You gotta worry about this, we gotta make sure the mother's okay, and so that was a lot of our pre-game so we put our rubber gloves on," Sgt. Finstrom recalled.

First responders took the baby and mother to the hospital.

"Our guys we got together. And you know, you know, we told each other good job because we worked at this together. It was a team and it was, you know, it was pretty emotional for all of us being a part of, you know, a life coming into this world," Finstrom said.

Mother and child are doing well.
