Peeled oranges in plastic spark backlash

Posted

(GeoBeats via AOL)-- Whole Foods offers a plethora of cut and peeled products which many customers find convenient. However, every now and then, things seem to go a bit too far as evident by reactions to one such product.

Nathalie Gordon recently posted an image  to Twitter of peeled oranges in plastic packaging at a California location with the note, "If only nature would find a way to cover these oranges so we didn't need to waste so much plastic on them."

And the 'netizens' for the most part agreed with the post and commented on the apparently unnecessary plastic usage.

Whole Foods was quick to respond with a Twitter post , "Definitely our mistake. These have been pulled. We hear you, and we will leave them in their natural packaging: the peel."

While many social media users applauded the company's response, some were disappointed with one noting , "Please dont. A lot of ppl with disabilities like arthritis see them as a lifesaver..." and another said , "Some people have mobility issues that make it hard to handle a knife."

What do you think? Should Whole Foods sell peeled oranges?
