The award-winning Broadway musical Wicked is coming to the big screen!
Universal Pictures announced Friday a film adaptation is in the works, and will open on Dec. 22, 2021.
The movie is based on the Tony Award-winning musical, adapted from Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel.
Wicked tells the story of the unlikely friendship between Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch, before the events of The Wizard of Oz.
Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth gained critical acclaim for originating the roles of Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, when the musical opened on Broadway in 2003.
There's no word if the actresses will reprise their roles in the film adaptation.
