(News 12 Long Island/CNN) - It was a very special delivery in a Starbucks parking lot, as a father sprang into action when his wife went into labor.
Video captured Matt Dolber, 31, and his 2-year-old son, Chase, cut the umbilical cord of the newest addition to the family. Sailor Jewel Dolber was born Wednesday, delivered by her own dad.
Casey Dolber, the mother, and daughter are doing well.
When his wife told him the contractions were getting closer together, at first, the dad said he didn't believe her. They had sat in the hospital Saturday when she felt she might go into labor, but that was a false alarm.
This was the real thing. Matt Dolber said five minutes after leaving home, Baby Sailor made it clear she wasn't interested in waiting any longer.
Dad called 911, pulled into the parking lot and listened as the dispatcher explained to him how to deliver a child. He did it all while his 2-year-old son watched from the backseat.
"(I) took my shirt off, wrapped the baby in my shirt, and then (the dispatcher) told me to take my shoelace off and wrapped the umbilical cord," Matt Dolber said.
The paramedics soon arrived and helped father and son cut the cord. The family then finally went to the hospital.
Matt Dolber had some advice for all of the soon-to-be dads out there who hear their wives say it's time to go.
"Listen to your wife," he said. No matter how much she drives you crazy, just listen to her. Even if you've had a couple of false alarms, just go, just go with the flow, it will pay off in the end. You won't have to end up like me."
