Deals, freebies for furloughed federal workers in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast

A number of organizations and businesses are offering services or deals for furloughed federal workers. The information below was composed by each organization or business.

THE BOYNTON DINER

All government employees and government contractors can receive a free meal at The Boynton Diner for as long as the government shutdown continues. You must show your government identification. The Boynton Diner is located at 500 East Woolbright Rd. in Boynton Beach. Their hours are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

BRIGHTLINE:

Brightlineis offering free rides for Federal employees (Smart Service only) between its Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach stations. Federal employees must present their government issued employee ID to guest service agents at each Brightline station to receive a free SMART ride. Federal employees are eligible to receive complimentary rides until the government reopens. Rides can only be booked in the station.

WEST PALM BEACH UTILITY SERVICES:

Federal employees not receiving a paycheck due to the 2019 partial shutdown of the federal government will be exempt from disconnection of public utilities service for the duration of the shutdown. The City of West Palm Beach will provide payment extensions, payment arrangements, and waive any associated late and disconnection fees for affected employees. Federal employees who fall into this category will be asked to present a copy of their paycheck showing their gross pay was $0.00 for the pay period to qualify. Employees affected by the shutdown are encouraged to contact the Public Utilities Customer Service Department at (561) 822-1300 as soon as possible to prevent any interruption in service. If service is interrupted, the water will be restored within 24 hours at no charge to the employee. If the account is not in the affected federal employee’s name, the employee will have to present state issued picture identification with the service address as proof of residency.

BOYNTON BEACH UTILITY BILL ASSISTANCE

While the partial federal government shutdown is in effect, the City of Boynton Beach will defer water, wastewater, reclaimed water, irrigation water, stormwater, and solid waste fees and waive any associated late fees for residents that are affected. In addition, water will not be disconnected during the furlough for these residents. Individual customers will be provided a 60 day grace-period once the furlough ends. To qualify, federal employees must live in the City of Boynton Beach and provide a pay stub or letter from their employer stating they are furloughed. For more information, call the Utilities Department at 561-742-6400 to arrange for a three-month deferral and subsequent payment plan.

LAKE CLARKE SHORES UTILITIES

The Town of Lake Clarke Shores is allowing all furloughed Federal government workers served by the Town’s utilities to defer utility payments until the government shutdown ends. In addition, Town officials will offer a special repayment plan for returning workers in order to avoid them being hit with a large bill upon their return to work. Finally, the Town will waive any late fees for the duration of the shutdown. Town officials ask anyone affected by the shutdown and looking to defer payments to contact Lake Clarke Shores Town Hall at 561-964-1515.

SUB-CULTURE

All Federal Workers that are not getting paid eat for free @ all Sub-Culture locations.
Coast Guard - Air Traffic Controllers - TSA - etc. And because you may need more relief every Saturday until the shutdown ends you also drink free. *MUST bring your federal id, one visit per day, tip not included, No Alcohol (except Saturdays), FOOD NOT AVAILABLE @ ALL LOCATIONS, SOME RESTRICTIONS APPLY, CALL LOCATION FOR MORE DETAILS, May expire at anytime


TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH (FREE MEALS)

Every Tuesday and Friday mornings during the school year from 6a-8a school age children ( to now include Federal Employees ) are encouraged to stop by the church and enjoy a FREE hot well balanced and nutritious breakfast before heading off to school as part of the church Meals Around the Clock (established Nov. 2016) breakfast feeding ministry program.

In like manner, older adults age 60 and over ( to now include Federal employees ) are invited to stop by the church to enjoy a nutritious hot dinner meal FREE of charge every Tuesday evening at 5p during the school year as part of the church Golden Years Dinner (established Nov. 2011) feeding Ministry.

SEMINOLE CASINO COCONUT CREEK FREE MEALS

Seminole Casino Coconut Creekhas announced it will offer affected federal workers an opportunity to “dine on us.” Government employees from the Treasury, Homeland Security, Interior, State, HUD, Transportation, Justice, Agriculture and Commerce departments who simply show their valid government ID can enjoy lunch at Fresh Harvest or dinner at Sorrisi now through January 31. From Monday to Friday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., a government employee and guest can have lunch at Fresh Harvest once a day and up to five times a week. The maximum value is $19 per person and $38 per couple. At Sorrisi, the property’s Italian restaurant, a government employee and guest may enjoy dinner once a week on either Sunday, Wednesday or Thursday (5 p.m. to 10 p.m.) or Friday and Saturday (5 p.m. to 11 p.m.). SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PALM BEACH COUNTY

Families impacted by the Federal Government shutdown could qualify for free or reduced lunch due to a temporary reduction in household income. Applications can be completed online or at the school. TREASURE COAST FOOD BANK

Treasure Coast Food Bank stands ready to assist the 1,000 federal employees and their families going without paychecks because of the federal government shutdown. Food boxes with staples that any family could use will be available to any federal employee in need at Treasure Coast Food Bank starting next week. Additionally non-food essentials, including paper products, diapers, and pet food are available for families affected by the shutdown.
