MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — Yaquelin Vasquez says her younger brother Nestor Vasquez was full of love.

14-year-old Nestor, a student at Anderson Middle School in Stuart died Monday morning after being caught in a rip current Sunday night at Bathtub Beach.

Carlos Daniel Vasquez said he was also overcome, and couldn’t reach his cousin. “He was asking for help for help and he couldn’t help him," said Gilmer Vazquez, who was translating for Carlos.

Nestor's mother told deputies that her son was only about two car lengths from the shoreline when they were pulled further out into the ocean.

Carlos and another relative were pulled safely from the water. Nestor’s body eventually washed ashore where a deputy began lifesaving efforts.

"The last word he said was ‘help me’ then he went down," said Carlos Vasquez.

Nestor’s little brother held back tears as he recalled getting help with homework and chores.

“Let me play on his phone and he would always play with us," said Eduardo Vasquez.

A family’s deep sadness touched by a glimmer of hope knowing where their loved one is now.

“I know he’s in heaven and I know he’s going to be okay over there," said Yaquelin Vasquez.
