MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — Martin County residents can now sign up for a new program designed to better connect them to critical information in their communities.
The county is upgrading its emergency alert system by partnering with the state to create "AlertMartin".
Residents can be notified of anything from evacuation orders, to boil water alerts, to criminal activity in their neighborhoods.
“This program will give us the ability to contact our residents through text, phone call, email. However they want to be notified, wherever they want to be notified, we can reach out to them," said Michele Jones, Martin County Emergency Management Director.
You can specify what type of weather alerts you want to be notified of, and even when you don't want to be notified.
However, the county says that feature is disabled when there's a life threatening situation.
