MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — In front of colleagues and friends, Citrus Groves Elementary teacher Danny Rendell received $500 check for his 19 years of dedication to his students.

“It is a very thankless job most people don’t realize how hard it is,” Anne Warner said.

Anne Warner, a spokesperson for Buddy Bear Weekend, said they teamed up with Professional Referral Network to give Rendell a surprise that could help him further his mission.

“Every penny counts in education as teachers we try to stretch our penny as far as it can go so $500 is going to do tremendous for this entire school,” Rendell said.

He is already honored to be named Florida’s PE Teacher of the Year.

“Sometimes people don’t get recognized where they should be and he’s an amazing person,” Warner said.

“It’s nice to be recognized by my peers, my fellow students and PE teachers from all over the state and the nation. So, it’s exciting and overwhelming,” Rendell said.
