TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Health has released updated numbers on Zika virus infections.
The department says that as of Wednesday, August 17, 2016, three new non-travel related cases. Officials believe that active transmissions of the virus are occurring in an area less than one-square mile in Miami-Dade County. One of the new cases was exposed in that area, while the other two infections were exposed outside of the one-square mile area in Miami-Dade County.
There are also 12 new travel related cases with 2 in Palm Beach, 2 in Polk, 1 in Broward, 1 in Duval, 1 in Lake, 1 in Martin, 1 in Pinellas and 3 involving pregnant women.
So far, the Department of Health says there have been 461 travel-related infections and 33 non-travel related infections of Zika, with 63 of those involving pregnant women.
