Harvard researchers found that older men who regularly skipped breakfast had a 27 percent higher risk of heart attack compared to those who ate a morning meal.
Some other studies have suggested a link between skipping breakfast and obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and other health problems. But this is called the first to draw a line to heart attacks.
Experts think people who skip breakfast are more likely to eat larger and unhealthier meals later. That can spike sugar levels and perhaps lead to clogged arteries.
The new research was released today by the journal Circulation.
