(CNN) - A recent study of American adults showed that nearly a third do not floss their teeth.
The study looked at self-reports of more than 9,000 adults on the number of days they had flossed the week before.
In addition to 32.4 percent who never flossed, another 37.3 percent failed to floss daily.
The study found that failure to floss was higher in men, older adults, and African-American and Hispanic adults.
Low-income participants were also less likely to floss, according to the study.
The study's author says the results show a need for stronger patient education on dental hygiene.
