Terminally ill Star Wars fan Daniel Fleetwood died, his wife announced Tuesday in a Facebook post.
Fleetwood, 32, became famous after a social media push succeeded to let him watch the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The newest Star Wars film is not set to reach theaters until December.
Fleetwood has been suffering from spindle-cell-carcinoma for three years. In September, Fleetwood's doctors gave him two months to live, but he held out hope that he would be able to see the newest Star Wars film when it is released.
After his story made headlines, the hashtag #ForceForDaniel began trending on social media. Even Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the series, showed his support with a retweet.
It seems the hashtag caught the eye of Disney officials. On Thursday, Daniel's wife Ashley Fleetwood posted a message on Facebook, saying that his final wish had come true.
On Tuesday, she posted that he had died.
"Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end," Ashley Fleetwood, posted on Facebook. "He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace. He will always be my idol and my hero. Please hug uncle Marc for me and give Lucy lots of kisses. Rest in peace my love. This was the last selfie we ever took together. #forcefordaniel"
