You may not be wasting away in Margaritaville today, Feb. 22, but because this is now National Margarita Day you at least have an excuse to celebrate with one.
Facebook even has a webpage solely to help fellow margarita lovers come together and share stories, margarita ideas and recipes. It hosts articles such as “10 ways tequila is good for you” and “How to get prepared for National Margarita Day.”
Here are deals, recipes, stats and more to help you celebrate this day.
A lot of restaurants and bars will be offering margarita deals around this national holiday.
• Applebee’s has happy hours (plural) not singular where margaritas go for $4. So, it seems like a great place to celebrate to me.
• Chipotle will offer margaritas at a bargain price at select locations, so why not make a special trip here on the big holiday. Come on, you know you want to.
• Tony Roma’s classic margarita, the “Romarita,” drops from its regular $4 to $2.22 in honor of National Margarita Day. That seems like quite the bargain to me.
• Tin Lizzy’s will be offering 10 oz margaritas all day on 2/22 for $2.22
• On The Boarder Mexican Cantina will be offering $1.00 margaritas all day 2/22
• Cheeseburger in Paradise will also be serving $2.22 margaritas on 2/22
• Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville will not only have drink specials all day but they will also be having contests, a national holiday toast and even a mixology class. Check your local Margaritaville for times.
• Send a free e card to family or friends to celebrate National Margarita Day.
Classic Margarita (from gimmesomeoven.com)
1 1/2 ounces tequila, silver or reposado
1 ounce Cointreau (orange liqueur)
3/4 ounce freshly-squeezed lime juice
Agave nectar or simple syrup for sweetening, if desired
Lime wedge and salt for rimming the glass
If you would like salt-rimmed glasses, begin by running a lime slice (the juicy part) around the top rim of a glass. Fill a shallow bowl with salt, and dip the rim in the salt until it is covered with your desired amount of salt. Set aside. Add tequila, lime juice and Cointreau to a cocktail shaker, and shake or stir until combined. Taste, and if you would like it to be sweeter (most people do!), stir in a half teaspoon of agave or simple syrup until the mix reaches your desired level of sweetness. Fill glass with ice. Pour in the margarita mixture over the rocks. Serve immediately, garnished with an extra lime wedge if desired.
Peach Margarita (By bakerbynature.com)
6 ripe peaches, cut in half, pitted, and peeled
¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
3 tablespoons confectioner sugar
1 cup tequila
½ cup fresh lime juice
½ cup triple sec
1 lime cut into wedges
Peel and pit the fresh peaches. Combine the peaches, orange juice and sugar in the body of a blender; pulse until completely smooth. Divide the ingredients evenly into 4 large glasses full of ice; stir well to combine. Serve at once with a wedge of lime.

All you need is: ¼ cup Triple Sec, ¼ cup silver tequila, ½ cup plus 2 tablespoons lime juice, 1 tablespoon sugar and ½ cup gelatin. In a saucepan on the stove, add all the liquid with a sprinkle of gelatin, and heat it to around 90-100 degrees. Alcohol will burn off at around 159 degrees, so try and keep the temp much lower than that! Add sugar. While stirring briskly with a whisk, gradually add the gelatin powder. Continue whisking until all the gelatin has dissolved. Don’t get too crazy with your whisk or it will be really foamy!
Once the gelatin has all dissolved into the liquid, scoop any extra foam off the top (eat it!), and pour the mixture into a 9×13 (or similar sized) baking dish. Put it in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Cut into rectangles or use small cookie cutters to cut into shapes.
Serve chilled in margarita glasses if you want to be fancy!
