All those holiday purchases placed on your credit card can raise your credit utilization and cause some short-term damage to your credit score.
But, if you pay your bills on time and start bringing your utilization back down, you could help your score recover over time.
Several websites, Credit.com, CreditKarma.com and CreditSesame.com, offer free looks at your credit score, as well as the credit reports that influence it.
Experts advise keeping your use of credit to no more than 30 percent of your total credit limit.
