Free tax help available for eligible taxpayers

Posted

The deadline to file your federal income tax return is a little more than a month away.  And one service is offering help to many taxpayers without the hefty price tag that usually comes with going to a professional.

AARP’s free Tax-Aide service is designed to help the elderly and anyone with a low to moderate income.

Tax experts volunteer their time at area libraries and community centers.

"Most of the tax services are fairly, they cost, they cost a lot of money, actually, more than people have and want to spend to have their taxes done. If we can do their tax return in a half hour, why should they go somewhere and have to pay $200?" said AARP Tax-Aide District Coordinator Rick Burdette.

Last year AARP filed 245,000 returns in Florida alone.
