A consumer alert tonight as rate hikes are likely for Citizens Insurance customers.
Citizens is the insurer of last resort. They're slowly shedding customers, but many still have no choice. Now you may have no choice but to pay higher rates.
If approved by state regulators, the statewide average rate hike is 7-percent.
The hikes will be even higher if you live in Palm Beach, Indian River, and Okeechobee counties. Citizens blames abuse of water claims for the rate hike.
It's a reminder, though, to check your policy.
