MIAMI, Fla. — Zoo Miami is showing off one of its newest and most adorable additions, a baby koala named Hope.

The animal, which was born last year, was named Hope to honor all the victims of those devastating and deadly wildfires in Australia.

Koalas are native to Australia and are one of its most iconic animals.

The zoo said Hope emerged from her mother's pouch for the first time on Wednesday.

"We have named this baby, 'Hope,' in homage to all that are fighting to protect Australia from the catastrophic fires and as a symbol for what we are praying will be a positive future for koalas," said zoo spokesperson Ron Magill in a written statement.

The Zoo Miami Foundation is now collecting donations to assist with the rescue and recovery efforts in Australia. To donate, click here.
