When you ask Siri to cue up your favorite track, you’re probably used to your request being fulfilled through Apple Music. While Apple Music has long been the default music player on iPhones, the next update will allow you to set Spotify as well as other third-party apps as your default music player.

This new feature is available as part of the iOS 14.5 beta and was discovered by some savvy iPhone enthusiasts on Reddit. Beta testers noted that when you ask Siri to play a song, you might have your choice of Spotify, Apple Music or other streaming services on your phone. Once you choose one, that app will be set as the default and automatically used the next time you ask Siri to play music.

For those that did not have Apple Music installed, Siri automatically defaulted to the main player they use, whether that’s Spotify or another app.

This feature isn’t available to everyone yet — just some beta testers and developers. So far, testers are reporting some bugs, but hopefully, Apple will fix them ahead of the update.

Apple hasn’t announced when iOS 14.5 will officially launch, but according to MacRumors, there are a number of other exciting changes slated to be part of the update.

What Else Is in The Next iPhone Update?

Now that we’re all used to masking up in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, Apple is making it a little easier for users of the face ID feature to unlock an iPhone while wearing a mask. The new feature will allow the iPhone to use Apple Watch as a secondary authentication method, eliminating the need for users to take off their masks for facial recognition and using a passcode.

iOS 14.5 will also support T-Mobile’s standalone 5G network, which should give improved 5G range. Other changes coming as part of the update include expanded controller support, Siri-enabled emergency calls, increased app tracking transparency and more.
