Miami Gardens Police Officer David Starling is still recovering at the hospital, but thankful to be alive.
Starling said he thought of his wife throughout the incident, called her right after and the prayed, giving a word of thanks to God.
The 30-year- old veteran was shot eight times while sitting in his patrol car Friday.
"I know that was a hairy situation I just came through, I made it so I guess it wasn't my time to go yet," he said.
