NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Donald Trump is a presidential candidate uniquely preoccupied by his portrayal in the news.
And the former reality television star and tabloid king wants to control that coverage as much as possible.
Trump routinely orders news cameras to show off the large crowds gathered at his rallies. When they fail to obey, he chastises them with disgust. He's fumed over live television reports done from empty auditoriums after his supporters have left.
And he's prolific on Twitter, where he offers live commentary of cable news reporters and analysts.
It's all part of Trump's unorthodox campaign for the Republican presidential nomination that's been built and sustained on free press coverage and social media.
