Information submitted by city of Port St. Lucie:
PORT ST. LUCIE – The City is inviting area artists to submit their work for a chance to have it featured as part of the grand opening celebration for the Crosstown Parkway Extension Project.
Port St. Lucie wants to tap into the creativity of artists as part of its popular program to help beautify the City by wrapping utility boxes with artwork. Utility boxes at the intersections of Floresta Drive and Crosstown Parkway and U.S. 1 and Crosstown Parkway -- near the new Walter B. England, III Memorial Bridge -- will be wrapped with artwork submitted by artists.
Artists of all ages (they do not need to be professionals) are encouraged to submit an image for consideration for one of the box wraps. The artwork must be themed specifically to the St. Lucie River or the Crosstown Parkway bridge.
It’s easy to apply. Artists can submit a color sample of their art electronically in a .jpeg format to NICE@cityofpsl.com. Please provide your name and contact information. Minors must submit the name, relationship and contact information of their guardian.
The artwork must be submitted between March 1, 2019 and April 1, 2019. The City will accept a wide variety of artwork including drawings, paintings, photographs, etc. There are no restrictions on the type of art, other than it must be submitted as a high-resolution digital .jpg file with landscape orientation.
All the submitted images will first be provided to the installer who will review them for printability. After that, the images will be given to the City’s Art Advisory Board in May or June. The Art Board will forward its recommended selections to the City Council for final approval in early July.
The selected images will be installed on the utility boxes in time to be featured during the grand opening celebration of the bridge later this year.
Artists will not be compensated, but they can have a signature on the image (in a 16 in. x 16 in. space on the wrap). Other contact information cannot go on the image, but it will be shared via the City’s website and social media. The City will have the right to use and duplicate the artwork for a period of five years.
Artists with questions are encouraged to contact the City’s Neighborhood Services Department at 772-871-7395 or email NICE@cityofpsl.com.
