The wreck was reported around 4 a.m. at 38000 State Road 80 near Sugar House Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a semi driven by 54-year-old Martin Willis Gray of Ocala was eastbound on State Road 80 and struck the left side of a Mazda  driven by Jeremy T. Banks, Jr., 21, of South Bay, who was northbound on Sugar House Road.

The semi ended up in the westbound lanes, in the path of a U.S. Mail tractor-trailer driven by Erick C. Vinson, 54, of West Palm Beach. Vinson's rig veered off the road and burst into flames, FHP said.

"The cab of the second tractor trailer was completely destroyed. He was very fortunate to get out of the truck before it burst into flames," Sgt. Mark Wysocky said.

Vinson was taken by helicopter to St. Mary’s Medical Center in serious condition.

Both Gray and Banks were pronounced dead at the scene.

Eastbound lanes on State Road 80 reopened around 1:30. Westbound lanes opened 45 minutes later.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
