3 killed, 2 others hurt in Beeline Highway head-on crash in Martin County

The Florida Highway Patrol said a head-on crash Monday morning on the Beeline Highway killed three people and injured two others two miles south of Kanner Highway.

The two-vehicle wreck involving a 1998 white Honda Civic and 2003 brown Mercury Marquis occurred at 6:36 a.m. southeast of Indiantown.

 

FHP Sgt. John Baker said three people in the Civic died in the crash.

They victims, who were all from Indiantown, were identified as Odilon Velasquez Morales, 47, Abel Perez Hernandez, 34, and Carlos Lopez Maldanado, 34.

Two people injured in the Marquis were taken by helicopter to St. Mary's Medical Center. They were last listed in serious condition. Neither one was wearing a seatbelt.

The Mercury was northbound and the Civic was southbound at the time of the collision. The Mercury was trying to pass a tractor-trailer and struck the front of the Civic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The cause of the crash is being investigated, but Baker said there was fog in the area when the wreck occurred.

The road was re-opened to traffic around 11 a.m.
