West Palm Beach Police officials said a man was carjacked and shot behind the service alley on the 4000 block of Okeechobee Blvd.

The victim was identified by police as 46-year-old Gene Kish.

Witnesses tell WPTV that the victim was wearing a black Infiniti shirt. Witnesses believe he may work at the nearby Schumacher car dealership.

A witness said the man was shot in the back of the leg. Coatlin Bryant heard the gun shot.

"I heard a pop so I came down this way. There was a beige truck leaving the scene and I see a guy laying on the ground here and there was another guy with him,” Coatlin said.

He stepped in to help.

"I came up and tied a reflective vest around his wounds to keep it from, you know, stop the blood, put some pressure on it.”

Coatlin said it hit home when the victim told him about his wife and child.

“I have a daughter. That’s the first thing he told me was let my daughter and my wife know, that I love them. That just kicked me into a whole other mode. I wasn’t really even thinking about anything else but making sure he was ok at that point.”

The suspect involved in the incident, which occurred shortly after 5:15 p.m., remains unknown.

The victim was taken to St. Mary's Medical center.

Authorities say the car stolen in the carjacking is a 2003 beige GMC pickup truck, FL tag  Y91GKB.

If you see the truck or have any other information about the case, call West Palm Beach Police.
