WELLINGTON, Fla. — They take an oath to protect and serve but at Everglades Elementary in Wellington, one school resource officer's job description is expanding.

"It's the best job ever," Officer Steve Wunderlich said.

He hosted a pizza party, Friday for kids at the school.

"He's the best officer ever," one student said.

Wunderlich is a former Department of Homeland Security officer who now patrols the halls of the elementary school. A job he chose after the parkland shooting.

"And I know this place is safe with me here," he said

The kids are showing their appreciation by using their panther paws to throw a party for their new friend.

"They had to redeem thirty of these paws, each kid to have lunch with me today," he said.

Proving it's never too late to make a difference.

"It affords the opportunity for kids to see us and who we are that we are the good guys," Wunderlich said.
