MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — A 68-year-old Fort Pierce man died Wednesday morning after his motorcycle was struck from behind by a pickup truck on US-1 in what authorities are investigating as a traffic fatality.

The crash occurred around 6:35 a.m. on US-1 southbound, just north of SE Lillian Court, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 1991 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle was traveling in the left lane when a 1990 Chevrolet C1500 pickup truck collided with the rear of the motorcycle within the same lane.

The motorcycle rider was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 21-year-old Fort Pierce man driving the pickup truck did not sustain any injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
