FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a man was shot and killed during a youth football practice at a Fort Lauderdale park.

Local news outlets report that police say the shooting happened Thursday night at Mills Pond Park.

Police say dozens of children were on the field when shots rang out in the parking lot around 8:45 p.m.

The victim, who police say had coached youth sports at the park in the past, was struck multiple times by gunfire and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured.

NBC Miami reported that friends said the man was a volunteer coach for the Fort Lauderdale Hurricanes 7 and under team.

Detective Tracy Figone couldn't confirm whether the victim was working as a coach Thursday night.

Figone says police are searching for the shooter.
