Intense heat and humidity had an apparent adverse effect on a worker at Port Everglades, Friday.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews were called to rescue the man who they say was suffering from severe dehydration on a cargo vessel.
The worker was loading large sand bags when he became ill and they say the temperature inside the open area where he was working was more than 100 degrees.
Fire rescue said crews had to place him into a patient transport basket and lower him to the ground.
He was transported to Broward Health in serious condition.
