The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a South Florida mail carrier faces federal charges after a witness saw him dumping mail into a trash bin near his home.
U.S Attorney Wilfredo A. Ferrer and Chris Cave of the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General announced the charges against 58-year-old John Henry Caddle Jr. Wednesday. He faces up to five years in prison.
Court records show the witness recovered the bag and alerted authorities. On Aug. 19, postal agents found five garbage bags of mail outside Caddle’s Hollywood home. The mail was eventually delivered to the correct recipients.
Postal Service spokesman Jeff Krafels tells the Sun Sentinel Caddle worked for the postal service for 12 years and was assigned to a route in Hollywood.
Records don’t indicate whether Caddle has a lawyer.
