CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — A detective was injured while being dragged by a sports utility vehicle during a traffic stop in Florida.

Coral Springs police spokesman Chris Swinson tells the SunSentinel that the plainclothes detective was wearing a badge when he stopped the BMW on Tuesday afternoon.

Swinson says while the detective was talking to two men inside the SUV, it took off, dragging him. He fired his gun but no one in the vehicle was injured. The detective suffered injuries to his arms and legs.

Nearby schools were briefly placed on lockdown but police soon found the SUV's driver and passenger.

Swinson did not say why the SUV was stopped, or provide the names of the detective or the men involved.

He said more details will be available after the detective is interviewed.
