DAVIE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say several Florida schools were placed on lockdown after an "intellectually disabled" teen threatened shootings.

The Sun Sentinel reports that anonymous calls came in Monday morning, affecting Nova Middle and High Schools, Nova Eisenhower Elementary and Nova Blanche Foreman Elementary in Davie. The calls also affected John F. Kennedy Middle School in North Miami Beach and Cocoa High School in Cocoa.

Officials say the schools were locked down for a couple of hours until police officers had cleared buildings, common areas and parking lots.

Davie police say detectives were able to trace the calls to a 15-year-old boy and determined he was "intellectually disabled" and had mental health issues.

Information was sent along to the Broward County State Attorney's Office. It wasn't immediately clear if the boy would be charged.
