KISSIMMEE, Fla.-- Newly released video shows Kissimmee police officers saving two children who were in the custody of a suicidal child porn suspect.
The target of their investigation into alleged possession of child pornography was 48-year-old Luis Valentin.
Body camera video shows the two children, an 11-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, running from the vehicle in Kissimmee last Wednesday.
The detectives who made the stop said they did not know Valentin was armed until they were getting out to approach the vehicle. They said that's also when they saw the children in the backseat.
When a detective spotted Valentin's handgun, which appeared to be jammed, the other detective immediately grabbed the kids.
"As soon as I saw that slide lock back there was no question what was coming next, and that was me getting in that car and getting those kids out and sending them home to their mother," Kissimmee Police Department Detective Justin Lunsford said.
The mother of the children, and Valentin's former wife, said he suffered from PTSD and may not have been able to handle his impending arrest.
