FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a person has died after police attempted to take the individual into custody under a Florida act.
News outlets report officers working at an event at Carter Park were alerted to a person who was exhibiting abnormal behavior Saturday around 4:30 p.m.
Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Casey Liening says police later found the individual in the middle of traffic. Liening says officers saw the individual endangering themselves and others and attempted to place the person in custody under the Baker Act.
Authorities say the person resisted, a brief struggle ensued, and non-lethal subject control spray was deployed. The person was taken to the hospital, where the individual was pronounced dead.
The Fort Lauderdale police and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating.
