FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — One of Hawaii's most wanted fugitives has been arrested in South Florida.
The U.S. Marshals Service says 48-year-old Luke J. Warner was arrested last week in a Fort Lauderdale mall for possession of drug paraphernalia.
He gave a Fort Lauderdale police a fake name and was released on bond. But an officer was convinced the name was fake and worked with the department's crime analysis unit to identify him.
Officers went to an area where Warner had been spotted and found him. He tried to escape but was caught.
Warner was wanted in Hawaii for skipping out on a 10-year federal sentence for methamphetamine trafficking.
He has been turned over to the Marshals Service.
U.S. Marshals announced in October that they believed he was in South Florida.
