POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Officials say a Florida police officer's patrol car fatally struck a pedestrian who was crossing a street on Tuesday.
A Broward Sheriff's Office news release says the Fort Lauderdale officer was driving his marked patrol car as he approached an intersection around 9 p.m.
Officials say the light was green when 30-year-old Francisco Valdez-Villacres attempted to cross the street and was struck by the police vehicle.
Authorities say Pompano Beach Fire Rescue took Valdez-Villacres to a nearby hospital, where he died.
No charges or citations were immediately reported against the officer.
