Several law enforcement agencies searched through the suspected gunman's home, Thursday.

The home is located on the 7000 block of Loxahatchee Rd. in Parkland. The family left the home, Thursday morning and was sealed off shortly after.

The family's attorney, James Lewis, said the alleged shooter had been living with the family since his mother died in November.

A mother and daughter who live near Loxahatchee Road told WPTV the gunman worked at a nearby convenience store. Brandi Kanter says at one point she went to school with him at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

"He worked at the Dollar Store next to us," Brandi Kanter said. "He just didn't seem, he was like off all the time. He would usually pick fights with people for no reason."

Her mom chimed in on Wednesday's tragedy. Andrea Kanter told WPTV kids need to be encouraged to speak up.

"Tell somebody, even if you have to tell somebody outside of school or whatever if they're just a child that's throwing something at a kid or whatever it needs be controlled," she said.

The family told their attorney that they never saw any signs of the suspected gunman committing a mass shooting.
