A wrong-way collision killed a Miccosukee Police Department officer and another driver on Interstate 75 near U.S. Route 27, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The collision occurred in Broward County on Saturday at about 5 a.m. on I-75 about a quarter of a mile west of U.S. 27.

FHP identified the officer as 40-year-old Steven G. Greco and the other driver as 32-year-old Hollywood resident Curtis E. Woolwine, who died at the scene.

Greco was on his way home from work. He was transported by helicopter to Broward Health Medical Center but died from his injuries, FHP said.

Greco's wife, who is pregnant, was overcome with grief when her husband died and had to be hospitalized, Greco's brother told NBC 6.

FHP said Woolwine was traveling west in a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic on an eastbound lane on I-75 when the head-on collision occurred with Greco's 2018 Dodge Charger.

Greco joined the force in March 2018.

FHP said it the crash remains under investigation.
