A man was arrested in Pasco County after backing into a police car, charging at an officer and running around in only boxer shorts.

Sgt. Rosenbloom of Pasco County Sheriff's Office was northbound on Handcart Road when he saw several vehicles stopped on Handcart Road north of Kiefer Road.

A brown Chevy pickup driven by Joseph Pemberton, 41, had crashed into a Pasco County work truck. The Chevy also had Pemberton's four kids inside, who jumped out the window for fear their father would "run them over."

The pickup then veered into the northbound lane where Sgt. Rosenbloom was coming to a stop. Pemberton stared at him as he rapidly accelerated in reverse, intentionally striking the front of Rosenbloom’s vehicle.

The man then jumped out of his truck as it began rolling into a ditch. He was wearing nothing but boxer shorts, and began yelling and dancing in the middle of Handcart Road. At one point, he charged at the officer, who then deployed his stun gun.

They got the man into handcuffs, while he yelled that he had experienced “a revelation.”

Neither Sgt. Rosenbloom, nor the man, suffered any injuries other than the stun gun punctures and abrasions from the roadway.

Pemberton was charged with aggravated Battery on a law enforcement officer and child neglect and was transported to Dade City Hospital for medical clearance.

The children were turned over to a child protective investigator.
