FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — A Florida man must spend 18 months in a residential drug treatment program after stealing and crashing a golf cart at a regional airport.

Lee County court records show 42-year-old Robert Gallegos pleaded no contest Wednesday to grand theft and other charges. Besides drug treatment, he was sentenced to four years of probation and must pay restitution.

Authorities say Gallegos went for a joyride in June at the Page Field airport in Fort Myers. His journey across a runway temporarily prevented a plane from landing. He eventually crashed the golf cart and fled on foot. He was later arrested at a shopping center near the airport.
