(SNN, NBC NEWSCHANNEL) Two Florida brothers are charged with pointing a laser device at a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office helicopter in an incident that was caught on video.
It happened Wednesday and it didn't take long for authorities to track down the suspects.
Deputies used thermal imagining technology to pinpoint the location of the brothers
Deputies charged 25-year-old Gary Bennington and 22-year-old Matthew Bennington with one count each of misuse of laser devices, which is a felony.
The brothers denied involvement but later admitted to the crime after learning deputies captured it all on video.
The Federal Aviation Administration says aiming a laser at an aircraft is a serious safety risk which can completely incapacitate a pilot. The FAA says there were almost 4,000 laser incidents in 2014 alone.
