FDOT had more involved role in planning of failed FIU bridge

The Florida Department of Transportation had a more involved role than they initially led on in the planning of that FIU bridge that would eventually collapse, killing 6 people back in March, according to our affiliate NBC 6 out of Miami.

In emails, FDOT had shown concern for cracking in the bridge for months.  Recommendations made by an engineer were left out, to no objection by that engineer.

In more emails, the designed firm, eFIGG, did not agree with that engineer’s concerns, including for the potential for sheer-the force that engineers say can be seen when the bridge fell apart.

FDOT and FIGG did not comment.
