Dog recovering from gunshot wound in Hollywood

Police in Hollywood are investigating who shot a dog in the leg and left her for dead.

A father, driving his kids to school, saw the dog limping and whimpering on the side of the road. He picked her up and brought her to the hospital.

A butterfly marks the spot where a bullet pierced through the dog's leg, leaving shrapnel behind.

"It always makes me upset at the humans that do this, especially when someone left her there like that, you feel upset," said Dr. Angela Suarez with VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital.

Doctors at the VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital have been treating the 9-month-old Labrador mix since Thursday morning.

"Luckily, she perked right up after anesthesia and she just whimpers in the cage cause she just wants to get out and cuddle with us. She's sweet, she's so sweet," Dr. Suarez said.

While veterinarians treat her wounds, police are investigating to find out who's responsible.

"Hollywood Police were here, took pictures with crime scene investigators, and they're trying to figure out who possibly could've done this and left her," Dr. Suarez said.

She's able to walk, but with a limp, and will be in a cast for at least the next six weeks.

Her medical expenses are more than $5,000. The clinic set up a GoFundMe page, and a group called Grateful Paws is helping find her a new home.
