DELTONA, Fla. (AP) — Detectives in central Florida have arrested a woman who they say made up parts of her story claiming she was robbed by a man who pointed a gun at a 2-year-old child in her car.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office reports in a Thursday news release that 53-year-old Magalys Mejias was part of a drug deal gone bad. She faces charges of child neglect and another felony.
Mejias claimed that she and another woman were robbed last week as they were getting into their SUV, which also had a child. She told detectives the robber ran off and got into a vehicle with two other men.
Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson says privacy laws prevent him identifying the child's parent.
Detectives say Mejias had arranged to sell painkillers to one of the men.
